What is Multilingual Museum?

Multilingual Museum is a non-profit project. Its aim is to engage a volunteer-based, independent online community to help translate the narratives of Manchester Museum and increase its outreach.

Our self-managed volunteer community shares ideas and resources and works together for the common good through transparency.

Translations can provide easier access to content for those who prefer reading in a language other than English; but they can also offer a platform for a variety of audiences to engage actively with museum content, by using the translation process to contribute to the interpretation of that content.

We aim to respond to the needs and preferences of people using all kinds of languages from around the world, including regional, minority and endangered languages.

We seek to harness the opportunities that technology offers us to pursue our interest in science and culture.
