This replica of the famous ‘Golden Record’ sent out on board the Voyager probes by NASA in 1977 is part of our Heritage Futures exhibition.
Despite their popular name and the fact that they were thinly plated in gold, the so-called ‘Golden Records’ were primarily made from copper. The information carried on the records is physically encoded directly on to their surface.
The records contain 115 images depicting life on Earth along with musical recordings of pieces by Mozart and Beethoven and a message from former U.S. President Jimmy Carter addressing anyone that may one day encounter the #Voyager probes.
